West Molesey

West Molesey is on the other side of the river from Hampton Court Palace. This is where my family stayed in between the trip to France and before we left for Gloucestershire. It is a delightful village! We found some great little shops and of course some good food. It was here that my family tried sticky toffee pudding for the first time . . . they may be hooked. Just a side note, in England, when they call something a pudding it is referring to a dessert. Sticky toffee pudding is a cake covered in a caramel type sauce and topped with a cream or ice cream, and it is amazing. We may have tried it in every pub we ate in, as a taste test of course to find the best one. Each pub has their own take on sticky toffee pudding so it really is necessary to try it whenever possible.
One of my favorite aspects of traveling is to experience the various nuances of each village. It is interesting that villages that are only a short distance from each other can be so different. Each location offers a unique experience, so I try not to have expectations other than to enjoy it and be open to exploring and soaking it in.

I am so glad that Kelli found an Airbnb in West Molesey because it gave me a reason to go there to explore and experience this village and I was extremely delighted and will likely go back.

We also made a visit to Ham Houses, where I volunteer, which allowed my family to see where I spend some of my time as well as enjoy another favorite historic house. Ham House was built in 1610 and I believe that because it was kept in the family until it was turned over to the National Trust in 1948, the family understood the heritage and importance of the home and thus kept the home in pristine condition. Ham House is a rare example of the era and most of the furnishings and finishes are original to the house. Imagine a 17th century home filled with furniture that is 300-400 years old! Spectacular!!!

Cheers!
