Stunning Scotland , You Have More Bits of My Heart!

It was a thrill to return to Scotland and to see some areas I had not yet seen. It was even better to explore it with some family! We took the train from Stroud to Edinburgh and picked up a rental car to drive the 35 miles to Kinross where our Airbnb was located. Wow! Another beautiful village surrounded by green rolling hills, farms, historic buildings and situated on the banks of a lake. Amazing!! Kelli did a great job driving on the wrong side of the road with the help of her trusty navigator Lindsey.
We could have been happy spending all of our time in our little cottage with a view of the freshly plowed fields and the lake in the distance, but we chose adventure and we were not disappointed. Lindsey did spend time looking for the loch-ness monster and thinks she caught a glimpse of him or at least his boat-like cousin...

We took one day and drove to St. Andrews, which is the official home of golf. Spectacular! The golf course sits on the shores of the north sea and even in the fog the village is stunning. I could be happy in a village like that. I know I keep saying that but my heart yearns for the beauty, serenity and history I see in these brilliant villages.

When I travel I like to ask the locals where to eat because they often guide you to the best restaurants which are often hidden off the path from the typical touristy places. Such was the case in St. Andrews, if we had not known what we were looking for we would have walked right by and missed out. The restaurant, Forgan's, was delicious! We tired hard to line Lindsey up with our cute waiter James, that was an opportunity missed.... but the food was so worth it!
Another day was spent in Falkland. This day was also coronation day for King Charles III so we started the day off with a festive breakfast prepared by Lindsey, she has a knack! Then headed to Falkland castle for a tour where we were entertained by past royals regaling us with tales of their time at the castle. Charles I, Mary Queen of Scots and others, super cool!
Across from the castle we of course found a wonderful bakery and the best little family owned clothing and accessory shop. I really could have bought one of everything in that shop, but I settled for a one of a kind highland wool coat. The shop owner was delightful, we loved her Scottish accent even though she assured us it was not as deep as her fellow Scots.
