My parents named me Jill Christine.

Growing up the only time I heard my middle name was from my mother and it usually accompanied my being in some sort of trouble and it usually sounded more like "JILL CHRISTINE!". I put that in italics to soften it because my mom never really yelled but when I heard my first and middle name used together I always knew she was not pleased.

My older sister and both of my brothers have middle names but I do not remember them getting the same "name calling" treatment. I'm going to ask them about that. Okay, I admit that I heard my first and middle names used together on a fairly regular basis and it is highly likely that I totally deserved the JILL CHRISTINE! Even as an adult I heard JILL CHRISTINE but not as often, especially when I moved out on my own and my mom was less aware of my antics.

Are you wondering where I am going with this?

Jill Christine is still my name and the past several years have been a time of discovering and becoming. For reasons I will not go into here, my former last names do not resonate with me and I find it hard to even use them. If someone addresses me using my last name it goes right past me. When I meet someone new I usually ask that they just call me Jill. I prefer my students call me Jill as well, Professor Harmon was too much!

When I started this website, some time ago, using Jill Christine seemed right. Although, I wanted to turn it into a positive reflection of who I am today, not the crazy kid of my youth. Of course a bit of the crazy will always will be part of my make-up, but I like who I am and now when I hear Jill Christine I know it is a reflection of a life lived and who I am today because of it. I often write jill christine in all lower case, not to be understated but to simplify and because there are not that many fonts that have an upper case "J" that I like.

Cheers!
