Dreams

For years I have dreamed of living somewhere other than Utah or the US. A few months ago, as I sorted through things in my garage, I came across one of those infamous family letters. You know the ones (that usually go out at Christmas time) where the mom writes about each member of the family and what they are doing. My mom did this for a few years when I was in my early teens. Well this was one of "those" letters and I had to laugh about what she wrote concerning me. It went something like this. "Jill is still her artistic self and this year she wishes she was in Montana, (this was before I served my mission there, perhaps it was inspiration) Canada or Siberia." Note: these are all places with cooler temperatures which I still prefer. Siberia is the only place I have not spent any time and I'll be okay if I don't ever end up there. Regardless, I have always had this gypsy heart with a quest to roam the world.  I found this definition of a gypsy heart or gypsy soul and I think it fits.

"She likes to do what feels right to her. The rules don't apply, forget whatever people say or whatever the 'law' says, she will always question the rules and she refuses to conform to the arbitrary rules. She follows her intuition and her heart and she won't be held down by anything or anyone."

We all have our dreams and sometimes it seems that others are living what we only dream of. I don't think we should compare, envy or wish what we have away hoping that we will one day "live the dream". Even lose living what we think is a dream struggle, face rejection, loneliness, and they have bad days. Think about it, every dream has that weird awkward moment that doesn't fit with the rest of the dream. Embrace each day, be grateful for each experience, smile through the awkward and you just might find that were you are and what you are doing really is a dream.
This week for class we spent time in the super cool and very well equipped woodworking shop for our practical induction to the labs. Prior to that we had to pass a safety test before we could proceed to the induction and then use the labs. They presented us with our green apron (that distinguishes us as newbies to the lab but qualified to be there) and safety glasses. We were then shown how to use a few tools and each of us made a little steam boat. Out of the 12 students in my class, men and women, I was the only one who had ever used a power tool before.

American hair dryers just do not hold up even when using a converter in the UK. I had purchased a new one not long before I moved here so I hoped it would be okay. This morning as I was getting ready for church it died, at least there weren't any flames....

Needless to say, between that and the constant moisture in the air here it has been a larger than normal struggle to do anything with my hair that last beyond my front door. If I curl my hair it is flat as soon as I walk outside and if I wear my hair straight it ends up curly and it isn't a good curl. So I believe I have adopted a new hairstyle which doesn't require a hair dryer.

Sorted!
